Flash Fic Day 5: A single lily, a cliff, 3 hours.

Prompt: A single lily, a cliff, 3 hours.

It is commonly known that hummingbirds like lilies for their nectar. What is less commonly known is that they just think lilies are pretty. The Rufous hummingbird carried a single red lily in its long beak, miles away from its nest. It had found the lily near a cliff in the canyon and was ready to take it home to its family. The trip to the canyon had taken three hours, and the three-hour trip back was going to be just as easy and fun.

I challenged myself and wrote my first drabble (100-word short story)! Did you know that hummingbirds typically travel alone for up to 500 miles at a time? They can also fly for about 18-22 hours! Speedy little critters. Plant some lilies this summer for our tiny winged friends :)
